What has been your career path so far?
My accountancy career started in a small 3 partner practice in 2003 and even at this very early stage I was involved in the audit of several charities and social purpose organisations. I have been very fortunate to have worked in 4 accountancy practices over 18 years before joining Sayer Vincent, with 13 of those as a charity audit manager to 100’s of different charities, including several household names. I’m really enjoying making a significant contribution at Sayer Vincent by drawing on all the experience I’ve gained which gives me a valuable perspective I can share with those loyal colleagues who have been here for many years before I joined.
What do you enjoy about the charity sector?
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to help my charity audit clients who make a significant impact on health, education, animal welfare, the environment, housing, arts, culture, membership, grant-making and many other areas besides. I love the diversity of the charity sector where every client is doing something remarkable in a unique way to help their beneficiaries.
Best part of the job?
At Sayer Vincent, our trainees work exclusively with charities, gaining specialist expertise from day one. Training, coaching, and mentoring the next generation of charity finance leaders is a highlight of my role. I take an active role in the firm’s technical committee to guide our audit approach and ensure our audit teams get the support they need to excel.
What is something people may not know?
Prior to joining Sayer Vincent I decided to take some time out from the world of charity audit to project manage a back to brick renovation. It was really rewarding to see our house transformed from initial plans and drawings through to a fully functioning home that we now get to enjoy living in.
What do you get up to outside of work?
I can reliably be found standing on the North Bank at any Arsenal home game. I am also a board game geek with an endless appetite for rules, having played several hundred titles on a weekly basis over the last few years. I’m still trying to find time for hobbies as diverse as heavy metal gigs/festivals, skiing, ice skating, table tennis, pool and amateur dramatics but there simply are not enough hours in the day for everything!
