What has been your career path so far?
I took the somewhat extended route to qualifying as an accountant by spending 4 years working as a surveyor. When the small firm I was working for started to struggle in the financial crisis I moved into accountancy, initially with some internal audit work and then eventually into the world of financial audit.
What do you enjoy about the charity sector?
For me it’s working with organisations who are trying to make a difference for good, whatever their ultimate purpose may be. You get to meet people who are passionate and care deeply about their goals and it is often inspiring to be a small part of that.
What do you enjoy about your job?
It would be hard to narrow it down to a couple of specific items. I like knowing that working for Sayer Vincent we try to go beyond the aim of purely providing an audit report and try to add value in whatever way we can to charities who often are working with limited resources.
What do you get up to outside of work?
Although my knees are starting to wind down towards retirement, I still try and get around a football pitch as often as I can. With the need for less physically demanding activity increasing, I also try to get away to as many new places as I can, both in the UK and abroad.
