We are pleased to announce that our charity of the year for 2023 is Young Roots – an exceptional London-based charity working with young refugees and asylum seekers aged 11-25, most of whom are alone in the UK without their families.
Young Roots helps these young people to improve their wellbeing and fulfil their potential, through intensive one-to-one casework; youth and sporting activities; English language mentoring; youth leadership and access to specialist therapeutic and legal advice.
We will be supporting Young Roots in a several ways – our annual Christmas donation will be going to them and next year the Sayer Vincent team will also be doing some volunteer days at the charity to learn more about its work close up.
Our social committee is planning a range of fundraising activities including a Christmas Bake Off competition and the team will also take part in some of the charity’s fundraising sporting events next year including a London to Brighton Bike and the Hackney Half Marathon in May as well as supporting its annual comedy night.
Young Roots is expanding fast to meet demand for its services, and we hope that our fundraising efforts will help to enable their growth and support their youth development programmes which are so vital for the asylum seekers.
Everyone at Sayer Vincent is looking forward to really getting involved with the charity and we will keep you up to date with their events and news through our newsletters and social media.
We also wanted to flag up that Young Roots has several opportunities for volunteers available, so if that is of interest, you can find out more here.
There is also an ongoing fundraising appeal ‘Be 1 in 100’, with more details available here.
